Abstract narrowing funnel illustration in violet and pale lilac on white — decorative header for Mattress Finder: Match a Mattress to How You Sleep

Mattress finder: four questions, matched against the spec sheet

Type, thickness, firmness and the position you sleep in. Every result is a mattress reviewed on this site, and the review is one click away.

The finder searches every product reviewed on this site. It does not rank them by anything we were paid to prefer, and it does not hide one because its listing is incomplete — a listing that never states a figure still appears, labelled not stated, because an incomplete listing is not a worse product.

Your requirements

What are you shopping for?

Thickness and firmness only mean something within a type — a 3-inch topper and a 3-inch air bed are not comparable — so the class medians are computed inside one.

How thick?

Profile height as the maker states it. Toppers run 2–4 inches; most mattresses 10–14. Thicker is not better on its own — it is more layers, and the layers are what the review is about.

How firm?

As the maker rates it. Medium-firm is the most common claim and the safest default for back and combination sleepers; side sleepers usually do better one step softer.

How do you sleep?

Makers list the positions a mattress suits; most claim all three. A listing that names only one is the more useful signal.

CertiPUR-US certified foam

Only listings that state the certification are shown when this is ticked. Absence means the maker did not say, not that the foam is uncertified.

How to read the results

The figure on the right of each result is its thickness, and beneath it how far it sits from the median for its own type and thickness class. Thicker is not better: a 14-inch bed has more layers than a 10-inch one, and what the layers are is what the review is about. The bar shows where the mattress sits across its class, with the median marked.

Where a class holds fewer than eight products, no comparison is shown. That is a deliberate limit, not a missing feature. Read the review under each result opens this site’s review of that product; Check price on Amazon opens the listing.

Why incomplete listings still appear

Every figure here is the manufacturer’s, as quoted in the review. A filter that dropped everything it could not confirm would discard much of the catalogue the moment you answered, and what it discarded would not be worse products, only less completely described ones. So a filter excludes a product only when its listing positively contradicts what you asked for.

The catalogue is 904 mattresses and the things you sleep on at the time of writing, and coverage of the questions varies: thickness by 93%, firmness by 91%, sleeper by 72%, CertiPUR-US certified foam by 16%. Those are the manufacturers’ own publishing habits, not gaps we chose to leave.

What the finder cannot tell you

It cannot tell you how a mattress feels, because firmness is the maker’s rating and two makers’ “medium-firm” are not the same. It cannot tell you how it sleeps hot or cold, because cooling claims are marketing language in most listings and are not compared here. And it cannot tell you the price: this site does not track Amazon prices, which move daily. The review and the listing it links to carry the current one.
